Summer Packets 2025 for Girls Elementary
June 19, 2025
Dear Parents,
Summer packets will be sent home today with all girls entering grades 2-5. The goal of this packet is to keep strengthening and reinforcing the skills our children have learned over the course of the school year.
Reading, especially, should be encouraged as educational research shows (from www.study.com):
- Summer reading is critical to a child's ability to not only retain information learned the previous year, but also to grow in knowledge and critical thinking skills for the coming year.
- Just like exercising keeps muscles in shape, reading keeps the brain in shape. If you don't exercise, you lose muscle, and if you don't read, you can lose literacy skills.
- Children who don't read over the summer lose at least two months of reading development. This is often referred to as “the summer slide.” On the other hand, students who do read over the summer may gain a month of proficiency in reading. Reading over the summer is not a suggestion to keep kids busy; it's a critical requirement to help students stay on track for their entire educational career and beyond.
The Summer Packet is all inclusive with math and reading work in each packet. Students who return completed packets by September 11th will be eligible for a special treat in school! If you need an extra copy, you can pick one up at our Taylor Road office (call/email for hours), or access them through www.hac1.org in the Parent Corner.
Enjoy the summer and we look forward to seeing everyone back on August 27th!
Sincerely,
